After six years of uncorking wine for visitors on the Healdsburg Plaza, with Gina Gallo occasionally popping in, the winery has decided not to renew its lease.

Spokesman Michael Heintz said in a statement, “We will continue to offer the limited-production wines that brought so many visitors to the tasting room through our Wine Club and online at www.gallofamily.com.”

What’s behind this? The economic downturn? The pricey lease? An uptick in online sales? H eintz is sticking to his statement, but stay tuned as more information unfolds.

In the meantime, the Healdsburg Plaza, which resembles a Norman Rockwell print, will seem a little odd without the presence of Gallo, the family-owned wine giant that has made Sonoma County a household word with its multimillion dollar advertising campaigns.
