Two sparkling wine houses in Napa Valley (Domaine Chandon and Mumm Napa Valley) say they’re a couple weeks away from picking grapes because of the cooler weather.

Last year Mumm Napa Valley began picking in the middle of August and this year the winery is looking at the last week of August to begin.

The sparkling wine houses in Napa Valley are typically the first out of the gate to begin picking because the area tends to be warmer than other bubby regions in Northern California like the Carneros and Anderson Valley.

This season brings out the farmer in winemakers who keep one eye on the weather and another on their precious vines.

Who will be the first to pick? Stay tuned. We’ll keep you posted.
