Stonestreet, who just won an Emmy for best supporting actor in a comedy, has no doubt been uncorking cab to celebrate his win. No bubbly? Just how do we know what he fancies? Here’s the skinny. When Stonestreet was in Napa in June he said, “I really only drink wine with food and I’m a carnivore so whatever goes with steak works.”

Stonestreet was at Taste Napa Valley at Francis Ford Coppola’s Rubicon Estate in Rutherford. He was with several people with the show, including the co-creator and writer of the show, Steve Levitan, who explained how the show was conceived. “We really wanted to explore different kinds of families,” he said. “The American family has changed and there are a lot of different versions of families. The word family is constantly being redefined and we wanted to explore it.”

Levitan said when he and his writing partner Christopher Lloyd decided to develop a show, they met every day to work up ideas but they began each day sharing stories about their families. “We quickly realized the stories about our family were the most interesting things we were talking about,” he said. “From there we kept creating characters and tried to find a way to make them fresh and interesting.”

I only have one criticism for Levitan and Lloyd. They have yet to create a character who’s a full on wine-lover. It’s seems to be that the Modern Family of today has at least one true wine-lover who’s turning everyone else onto some great find – whether it’s a rockin’ zin or a snappy bubby.

Maybe Stonestreet, who plays Cameron Tucker, could become the designated wine-lover of the family with a script that plays up honking good cabs.
