The head winemaker behind our wine-of-the-week winner is John Pedroncelli and at 86-years old he’s still calling the shots. Yes, he has a team working under him, but he reports to work every day and he’s in great health.

The wine-of-the-week winner is the Pedroncelli Block 007 Estate Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at $25.

Pedroncelli  is a second-generation family member and he has officially been the winemaker since 1948.

He said the goal in producing  cabernet  is to make  it worthy of uncorking it today, as well one worthy of cellaring.  “We can achieve that by finding the balance between ripeness and tannins,” he said.

What would Pedroncelli say is the key in aging winemakers? Balance no doubt, and passion of course. He said he picked the perfect career.

“Attention to detail and my love for food makes it great,” he said. “I cannot imagine myself doing anything else.”
