A documentary called “From Obscurity to Excellence: The Story of Grapes & Wine in The Russian River Valley,” will be shown for the first time on Dec. 1 at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa.

The film focuses on the Russian River Valley’s rise to world class status through the lens of growers and winemakers who have deep roots in the region that reach back more than a century. It’s full of historic film clips, chronicling the foggy river resort of the 1980’s to present day.

The documentary was produced by Joe Nugent who worked on the film for more than five years.

There will be two showings, 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., in the East Auditorium of the Wells Fargo Center. Advance sale tickets are $12. Tickets are $15 at the door. The Wells Fargo Center is at 50 Mark West Springs Road in Santa Rosa. For more information, contact info@sonomafb.org, or call 544-5575.
