With the ZAP (Zinfandel Advocates & Producers) Tasting in the offing, I decided to do a ZAP Preview Tasting for our wine grid, along with a series of blogs. I told the ZAP organizers to encourage their members to send wine for this blind tasting and the response has been astounding. I have 200-plus bottles so far and the wine keeps coming.
I’m determined to taste at least one bottle from every winery and I can tell you this – it’s a good thing I spit.
The ZAP Preview Tasting will run in the Press Democrat’s food and wine section and on the PD website Wednesday, January 27th with a series of blogs highlighting top scoring zins to follow.
The ZAP Tasting is Saturday, January 30th from 2 to 5 p.m. at Fort Mason (Marina Blvd & Buchanan) in San Francisco. Advance tickets are $59 and can be purchased online at www.zinfandel.org.
